From Design Thinking to Storytelling: My Journey as a Video Producer
I started my career as a product designer, where I developed a deep understanding of design thinking—a creative problem-solving approach that has shaped every aspect of my work. This mindset allows me to bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to every project I take on, no matter the medium or industry.
My journey into the world of video production began with an exciting opportunity at the Cinemagic Film Festival, where I coordinated masterclasses and guest appearances. This experience ignited my passion for storytelling and visual media. It wasn’t long before I found myself working at BBC Northern Ireland as a self-shooting researcher, combining research and technical expertise to create compelling visual stories. This role was instrumental in honing my ability to find and tell engaging stories, and it taught me how to operate at the intersection of creativity and technical skill.
My transition into the Australian film and television industry saw me take on roles that further refined my storytelling abilities. As an Associate Producer for Deal or No Deal, I played a key part in ensuring the smooth execution of the show’s production, from contestant selection to episode planning. I then joined Radio Karate as a Research Producer for Hamish and Andy’s Caravan of Courage. Here, I was responsible for scouting locations, stories, and characters that aligned with the adventurous and humorous spirit of the show, blending humor with heartfelt moments—a skill I still apply to my work today.
After my time in TV production, I shifted into the corporate world, where I’ve spent years producing engaging video content for organisations such as AIA Australia. As a Video Producer and Content Producer, I’ve been responsible for creating high-quality video content that captures the essence of a brand’s story. My experience managing complex projects, working with stakeholders, and ensuring that each piece of content aligns with business objectives has given me a unique perspective on the power of visual storytelling in corporate environments. I continue to use my design thinking background to drive innovation and creativity, ensuring every video I produce is both visually compelling and strategically impactful.
Today, my work as a video producer is the culmination of years of diverse experience. From film festivals and TV shows to corporate video production, I’ve learned that the common thread throughout all my projects is the ability to tell a story that resonates with people. Whether it’s a heartwarming brand video or a thrilling TV segment, I bring a passion for storytelling and a commitment to excellence to everything I do.
